Scholarships and Awards are granted based on specific selection criteria that donors determine when they establish a fund with the Foundation. In most cases, a committee from the school will recommend the scholarship and award recipients. Unless otherwise noted, applications for the various scholarships are available by contacting the school office or the guidance department.

Blue Mountain High School

  • Hunter William Renninger Memorial Scholarship Fund - Heath and Heather Renninger established a scholarship fund to celebrate the life of their three year-old son who passed away on January 21, 2011. Hunter had great passion: family, friends, playgrounds, school buses, sports and the outdoors. The scholarship fund will forever keep Hunter’s memory alive and pay tribute to the character of so many young boys and girls in our local communities. It comforts the family to know that Hunter’s scholarship fund will support our future leaders in both Blue Mountain and Minersville Area school districts for years to come.

Mahanoy Area High School

  • James D. Collins Memorial Scholarship - The earnings from this fund are divided equally and distributed annually to students who are graduates of the Mahanoy Area School District and Tamaqua Area High School and are planning on attending an accredited college, university or non-profit technical or vocational school.
  • Paul M. Krukas Memorial Award Fund - The family of the late Paul Krukas of Barnesville accepted memorial contributions to establish this award in memory of a husband, father, teacher and mentor. The award will be given annually to graduating high school seniors of Mahanoy Area High School and selected by the committee based on the following criteria:
    • Actively participated in the high school’s football program and/or golf program during at least two years of his or her high school career, and
    • Plans to enlist in the United States Navy by September of the year of his or her high school graduation, or plans to attend on a full-time basis an institution of higher education, including but not limited to two and four year colleges and universities, community college, business, trade or vocational school, and
    • Demonstrated good sportsmanship and leadership during his or her high school career.
  • Andrew Neidlinger Memorial Fund - The earnings from this fund are annually distributed to a student of the graduating class of Mahanoy City Area High School, or its successor High School, who, during his senior year, has been a member of the school's football team, either actively as a player, or as a substitute sitting on the bench, who has a 2.5, or better, scholastic average, and who plans to enter a medically oriented post-high school program at an accredited institution of learning.

Millersburg High School

  • Mary E. and Warren E. Wert and Gertrude C. Schuler Memorial Award - This award was established for a graduate who is going to pursue further education leading to a degree to teach Elementary or Secondary Education.

Minersville Area High School

  • Martha M. Herbert and Michael J. Herbert, M.D. Science and Mathematics Scholarship - This scholarship was established to assist a graduate to attend a college or university in the United States. Preference shall be given to graduates who displayed superior academic performance in mathematics and science during their high school years.
  • Alice E. Kear Music Scholarship - This scholarship was established for a graduate who will attend a college or university to major in the study of music.

  • Tim Stine Memorial Award - This award was established for a graduating senior who excels as lineman of the Minersville Area High School football team.

Nativity B.V.M. High School

  • Martha M. Herbert and Michael J. Herbert, M.D. Science and Mathematics Scholarship - This scholarship was established to assist a graduate to attend a college or university in the United States. Preference shall be given to graduates who displayed superior academic performance in mathematics and science during their high school years.
  • Chester P. Steininger Memorial Scholarship (Accounting) - The earnings from this fund are distributed to graduates of Nativity B.V.M. High School who are attending or about to attend a college or university and who are pursuing a four year college degree in accounting.
  • Jean A. Tielman, R.N. Memorial Award - This award was established for a graduate who is pursuing training leading to a R.N. diploma or B.S.N. degree.

North Schuylkill High School

  • Mark R. Bell Memorial Award - The earnings from this fund are awarded annually to a member of the graduating class of North Schuylkill Junior-Senior High School who is going to pursue further study leading to a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education.
  • Stephen Fago Memorial Fund - The annual earnings from this fund will be distributed as follows: One half of the earnings to a graduating senior of North Schuylkill High School that specializes in math or science. One half of the earnings to a student of the North Schuylkill Technical Center who is a graduating senior also of North Schuylkill High School, for his/her outstanding record as a student at North Schuylkill Technical Center.
  • Felker-Smith Memorial Award - The earnings from the Frank A. Felker and Phyllis J. Felker, nee Phyllis J. Smith. His wife, Memorial Fund are awarded each year to the graduate of North Schuylkill High School, who is a resident of Butler Township, and who has the best academic record of all Butler Township students for the four years attendance at North Schuylkill High School.
  • Robert C. Fetterolf Memorial Award - The earnings from the Robert C. Fetterolf Memorial provide an award to a graduate of North Schuylkill High School who is pursuing training leading to a R.N. diploma or B.S.N. degree.
  • First Baptist Church of Ashland Nursing Award - Thirty (30%) percent of the earnings from The First Baptist Church of Ashland Fund shall be awarded to a student of the graduating class of North Schuylkill High School pursuing a degree in the Nursing field.
  • T. Stuart Goyne Memorial Award - The earnings from the T. Stuart Goyne Memorial Fund are awarded each year to a graduate of North Schuylkill High School who has the second best record for excellence in mathematics.
  • Emma T. Irwin Memorial Award - The earnings from the Emma T. Irwin Memorial Fund are awarded each year to the graduate of the North Schuylkill School District who excels in art.
  • Betsy Rubright Kent Memorial Award - The earnings from the Betsy Rubright Kent Memorial Fund are awarded each year to the graduate of the North Schuylkill School District who excels in home economics.
  • Maud M. Prichard Memorial Award - The earnings from the Maud M. Prichard Memorial Fund are awarded each year to a graduate of the North Schuylkill High School who excels in mathematics.
  • William J. "Rex" Roberts Memorial Award - The earnings from the William J. Rex" Roberts Memorial Fund are awarded each year to the graduate of the North Schuylkill School District who excels in English.
  • David Lee Sener Memorial Award - The earnings of this fund shall be awarded annually to a graduating senior of North Schuylkill School District who is the outstanding member of the brass section of the North Schuylkill High School Band.
  • Roy P. Steeley Music Award - The earnings from the Roy P. Steeley Music Scholarship Fund are awarded each year to the most deserving graduate of the North Schuylkill High School band.
  • Ruth A. Wagner Memorial Award - The earnings from the Ruth A. Wagner Memorial Fund are awarded each year to a graduate of North Schuylkill High School, who is a resident of Butler Township, and who excels in physical education.
  • Edward H. Watkins Memorial Award - The earnings from the Edward H. Watkins Memorial Fund are awarded each year to a graduating senior of North Schuylkill High School who has excelled in swimming throughout his or her high school career.

Pine Grove Area High School

  • Dolores D. Adams Memorial Scholarship - The earnings shall be distributed annually in amounts of $250 or more, as fund earnings warrant, to selected students of the graduating class of Pine Grove Area High School, based on financial need, who will attend a college, university or trade school.
  • Elizabeth K. Frank Memorial Scholarship - The earnings from the Elizabeth K. Frank Memorial Music Fund are awarded annually to a graduating senior of the Pine Grove Area High School who has participated actively in one or more of the school's musical organizations.

Pottsville Area High School

  • Tara M. Corson, Timothy R. Kimber and Joseph P. McGeoy Memorial Award - The earnings of the principal shall be awarded annually to a member of the graduating class of Pottsville Area School District who, throughout his/her high school career, achieved a superior scholastic record and who participated extensively in some form of athletics.
  • Alice E. Kear Music Scholarship - This scholarship was established for a graduate who will attend a college or university to major in the study of music.
  • Loretta Pollack Woznisky-Lonoskie Award - The earnings from the Loretta Pollack Woznisky-Lonoskie Fund shall be distributed annually as an award to a graduating senior at Pottsville Area High School, or its successor high school, who has demonstrated concern and dedication to preserving the environment and sustaining our green spaces.

Shenandoah Valley High School

  • Leonard Chaikowsky Academic Award - The earnings of this fund shall be awarded annually to a graduating senior of Shenandoah Valley High School who plans to pursue educational study and/or training at either an accredited college or university or an accredited trade school and who has performed credibly both academically and in service to the community which makes up Shenandoah Valley School District.
  • Pfluger-Przybylik Family Scholarship - The earnings from the Pfluger-Przybylik Family Scholarship Fund shall be awarded annually as a scholarship grant to a member of the graduating class of Shenandoah Valley High School to attend a college or university to major in a technical field such as accounting, computer technology, business or engineering.

Tamaqua Area High School

  • James D. Collins Memorial Scholarship - The earnings from this fund are divided equally and distributed annually to students who are graduates of Tamaqua Are High School and the Mahanoy Area School District and are planning on attending an accredited college, university or non-profit technical or vocational school.

Tri-Valley High School

  • Huntzinger-Schadel Family Scholarship - The earnings provide scholarship assistance to graduates of Tri-Valley High School for attendance at a college, university or technical school beyond the high school level but not for graduate work.
  • Warren M. Stutzman Memorial Scholarship - The earnings of the principal shall be awarded annually as a scholarship to a member of the graduating class of Tri-Valley High School, who is going to attend a college, university and/or technical school beyond the high school level. The graduate selected shall be chosen primarily based upon his or her athletic achievements, with secondary consideration given to scholastic achievement, leadership ability and community involvement.

Miscellaneous Awards/Scholarships

Blaze Belfiore Memorial Scholarship
The earnings of the fund shall be paid annually to St. Joseph Center For Special Learning, Pottsville, PA, for the tuition of a student attending that institution. Applications are available at St. Joseph Center For Special Learning, Pottsville, PA.

Cepheus Memorial Award Fund
The annual award will be made to a high school senior attending any Schuylkill County high school for his or her post-secondary education. Applicants must have been in the Schuylkill County Foster Care System for at least one year. If at any time a foster care student does not apply then the student must be a participant with the Schuylkill Haven soccer team during the year that the application is submitted to the committee. John Rich Curran Memorial Scholarship Fund
The earnings from this fund will provide annual scholarships to qualifying graduates of Schuylkill County’s high schools as students pursue post-secondary education. In order to qualify, students must have had an Individualized Education Program (IEP) in place at the time of their high school graduation, have maintained a B or better average throughout high school, demonstrated a commitment to community service/leadership outside the classroom and have demonstrable financial need. Ethel M. Jones Ermert, R.N. Award
The earnings each year are awarded to the person in the Pottsville Hospital School of Nursing who has the highest mark in obstetrics. Originally the award was given to the graduate of the Ashland State Hospital School of Nursing, but when that School was closed, the award was transferred to the geographically closest School of Nursing.

Foundation for Agriculture and Resource Management (FARM) Youth Scholarship
The earnings from the Foundation for Agriculture and Resource Management (FARM) Youth Scholarship Fund shall be awarded annually to graduates of an accredited high school or vocational school with no geographic limitations as to the location of the school. Successful applicants will attend a two or four year accredited educational institution in a discipline of their choosing and may apply annually for future scholarship support. The FARM shall select the recipients based on FARM's established scholarship policies and procedures. Applications are available at the FARM office.

Leslie E. Harner Instrumental Music Memorial Award
The earnings from this fund shall be paid to graduating seniors who are members of the Tremont Fire Company Community Band. If there is no graduating senior who is a member of the Band, earnings may be retained for distribution to eligible students in the following year.

Butch Kennedy Memorial Award Fund
The annual award will be made to a person or persons who are or will be attending a post secondary college, university or trade school. The awardees must have a physical or mental disability or have been involved in the disability advocacy movement. Additionally, the awardees must reside in the area served by Anthracite Region Center for Independent Living - Disability Action Crew, namely Schuylkill County, Carbon County, and Lower Luzerne County. The recipients may receive grants in more than one academic year and for any number of years, provided that he or she re-applies each year. Click here for application.

Lavelle AMVETS Post #156 Scholarship Fund
The Lavelle AMVETS Post #156 created this scholarship fund to provide post-secondary educational scholarships to individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Is a resident of Butler Township, Schuylkill County, at the time of application;
  • Is a child of a member of the AMVETS or of a member of the armed forces of the United States on active duty, and;
  • Is attending or will attend a post-secondary college, university, or trade school.
    The Scholarship Committee of the Community Foundation will select the recipients. Click here for application.

Rae Ann Lubold Memorial Award
The earnings are awarded each year to the person in the Pottsville Hospital School of Nursing who is the valedictorian of that class. Originally the award was given to the graduate of the Ashland State Hospital School of Nursing, but when that School was closed, the award was transferred to the geographically closest School of Nursing.

Ralph W. Morgan Memorial Scholarship Fund
The annual earnings shall be distributed in memory of Ralph W. Morgan to high school students enrolled in the Schuylkill Technology Center. The applicant must be a resident of Schuylkill County. The applicant must be accepted at an accredited institution of higher learning, a 4-year college, a community college, or a technical school. The applicant must be enrolled in a 4-year degree program, 2-year degree program, or a minimum 12-month diploma/license program. Click here for application.

Dorothy Wewer Narcovich Scholarship Fund
The earnings shall be awarded annually as scholarships to students who are members of St. Mauritius Roman Catholic Church or St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, both located in Ashland, PA and who will be attending any Catholic High School in Schuylkill County or the surrounding area. Joseph M. O'Neill, Jr. Memorial Award
The earnings from the Joseph M. O'Neill, Jr. Memorial Fund shall be distributed annually as an award to a graduating senior whose course of study was Electromechanical/Industrial Automation and Robotics at the Schuylkill Technology Center, North Campus. The instructor of the Electromechanical/Industrial Automations and Robotics class at the Schuylkill Technology Center, North Campus shall recommend to recipient of the award.

Billie Payne Scholarship Fund
The annual scholarship will be awarded to the Greater Pottsville Winter Carnival Snowflake Princess, who must meet the criteria set forth by the Payne scholarship committee. If the Snowflake Princess does not meet all the criteria, the award may be made to a runner-up contestant, using the final standings as order of preference, as the substitute first criteria. The Greater Pottsville Winter Carnival Committee will make the recommendation of the person to receive the award.

Pottsville Catholic Alumni Fund
The Pottsville Catholic Alumni Association established this fund as a means of aiding students entering into their freshman year at Nativity B.V.M. High School. The earnings of this fund shall be distributed annually as an award to a student or students who are selected by a committee from the school. There are designated geographical boundaries for the residence of these students, covering the same areas as originally served by Pottsville Catholic High School.

James J. and Mary Edith Rhoades Scholarship Fund
Annual scholarships will be awarded from this fund to Schuylkill County High School seniors planning to further their education. To qualify for a scholarship, a student must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a senior who in the year of application either has or will graduate from a public or private high school located in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, or a senior who resides in Schuylkill County and who in the year of application either has or will graduate from a public or private high school not located in Schuylkill County,
  • Plans to attend on a full or part time basis an institution of higher education, including but not limited to two and four year colleges and universities, community colleges, business, or trade or vocational school, and
  • During his or her high school career has exhibited a commitment to education, citizenship and community.

Schuylkill Haven Lions Community Charities Healthcare Scholarship
Distributions are made annually from the Schuylkill Haven Lions Community Charities Healthcare Scholarship Fund to eligible students who are employees or volunteers of Schuylkill Haven Area EMS, or graduates of Schuylkill Haven or Blue Mountain School districts to attend a college, university or trade school to study a healthcare related field that includes, but is not limited to, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic, Nursing, Laboratory Technician or other Allied Healthcare discipline. Applications are available through the Schuylkill Haven Area EMS.

Raymond L. and Jean D. Tilmont Memorial Scholarship
Any member of St. Mauritius Roman Catholic parish in Ashland, who has completed the eighth grade and will be attending any Catholic High School as a freshman may apply for a grant from this Memorial. If, any year, there are no applicants from St. Mauritius Roman Catholic parish, then applications shall be accepted from students of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic parish of Ashland. Applications are available at St. Mauritius Roman Catholic Church and at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church.

United Steel Workers of America, Local No. 14372 Scholarship
The United Steel Workers of America, Local No. 14372 Scholarship is offered to provide scholarship assistance for education above the high school level to the children, step-children, adopted children, grandchildren, step-grandchildren and adopted grandchildren of the present members and also of the former members, now retired, of the United Steel Workers of America, Local No. 14372.
