Established 2006

Blaze BelfioreEstablished by Girardville resident, Robert Belfiore, in memory of his son, the Blaze Belfiore Memorial Scholarship Fund will make annual distributions to St. Joseph’s Center for Special Learning in Pottsville for the tuition of a student attending the center. A committee will recommend the recipient of the scholarship, with Mr. Belfiore serving as a member of the committee.

Robert Belfiore and Bayada Nurses made donations to create the scholarship. Bayada Nurses were caregivers for Blaze and they graciously donated an additional $10,000 towards the development of this scholarship. “Bayada Nurses is thrilled our donation will be put to good use, benefiting the students of the St. Joseph Center for Special Learning, said Kathaleen T. Reevy, Division Director.

Blaze was born on January 6, 1998 and passed away on December 17, 2005, at age 7. He attended St. Joseph’s Center for Special Learning and enjoyed several trips to Disney World, music by Woody Wolfe, switch toys, lights, T-Ball, walks and he especially loved his dad. He was always smiling and loved giving hugs.

“I wanted to create a scholarship in memory of Blaze for St. Joseph’s Center because it is a safe, loving environment, emphasizing individuality and family values”, stated Bob Belfiore. “Bayada Nurses is more than heroes on the home front as their slogan states, and they were like family and certainly like mothers to Blaze”.

Distributions from this fund are made to St. Joseph Center for Special Learning in Pottsville for the tuition of students attending the Center.
