What is a community foundation?
Community foundations are tax-exempt public charities serving thousands
of people who share a common goal of improving the quality of life in
their area.
Individuals, families, businesses and organizations create
permanent charitable funds that help their region meet the challenges
of changing times. The foundation invests and administers these funds.
All community foundations are overseen by a volunteer
board of leading citizens and run by professionals with expertise in
knowing the needs of the community.
How are your assets invested?
Schuylkill Area Community Foundation utilizes the brokerage services
of Oppenheimer & Company Inc. for investment purposes. A Committee
of our board established the investment philosophy and the assets are
invested in a balanced manner for income and long-term capital appreciation
through the guidance of an Investment Counselor at Schuylkill Capital
Management. In addition, M & T Investment Group manages a portion
of our endowments.
What is Philanthropy?
Philanthropy, by definition, means to be charitable for the betterment
of mankind. We view philanthropists as ensuring a lasting and stable
resource for the support and development of our communities. The Community
Foundation provides services for everyone to invest through gifts of
any amount.
What are the tax benefits?
Both outright and planned gifts have attractive tax advantages for the
donor. Donors are encouraged to consult with their tax advisor before
making a charitable gift.
What is endowment?
When you create a charitable fund through your community foundation,
you have the opportunity to benefit the community in perpetuity with
a permanent endowment. Your gift is invested and the earnings from your
fund are used annually to address community needs based upon your wishes.
